I am a visual communication designer, and brand consultant, with experience of working for clients from entrepreneurs to the small and mid-size corporation who need a strong brand design to reach the next level.

I specialize in logo, brand strategy and surface pattern design. I am currently based in the UK and actively looking for opportunities in London.

Charmain has a Bachelor of Visual Communication Design degree from Pelita Harapan University (2013) as well as a Master of Arts degree in Design: Jewellery from Central Saint Martins (2018) and recently became an Exceptional Promise Endorsee by Arts Council England (2020).

 

In 2017 Charmain's group design project “Fragments” was chosen to be the runner up of Huawei Technology x UAL product design competition. At the same year, he is also got selected by Kreavi as one of 100 young Indonesia visual creator (Kreavi 100).

Present

As the owner and creative director of my design studio, my role is more holistic. My main responsibility is to plan the layout and visuals for the client's products and Branding, as well as to oversee a small creative staff team that responsible for producing the artwork and design. Aside from that, I have to juggle my times between client meetings, budgeting, production, implementation and activation. Over the years some of the design has gain recognition nationally through design awards like Kreavi 100.

I am continuing my career on graphic design by moving to the United Kingdom, and currently looking for an opportunity in London.

As one of their full-time graphic designer, my main responsibility is to designing brand identity for various individuals and business from the Ideation stage to finish (Implementation and activation), Report to my Creative Director, Producing brand book - guidelines, and when needed working collaboratively with a copywriter as well as a web designer and printers.

 

Over the one and a half year that I have spent working for the company, I have successfully secured over twelve branding projects as well as increasing the company productivity and appeal during client presentation through the use of 2D and 3D design mock-up.

CREATIFACTORY

The role is part of three months University work placement programme. I choose to work for a graphic design company that specialised in corporate branding and advertising. As their graphic design Intern, my main responsibility is to support the Junior and senior graphic designer on creating design artwork and project pitch. On doing so, I learn a lot about designing artwork (DTP/FA) for print as well as the implementation of printing and finishing technique to create a unique and appealing design.

 

Over the three months internship, Six of eight design project that I handle got approved and produced.

OTHER EXPERIENCE

HUAWEI TECHNOLOGIES

UAL Collaboration Project: Design Consultant. | London, United Kingdom.

October 2016 -

January 2017

The job was part of a collaboration project with CSM PCID Department. My main responsibility is to lead and manage an interdisciplinary design team on designing and developing phone accessories that could be used together with the new Huawei P10 Smartphone from concept to delivery. This project included comprehensive market research, generating conceptual ideas, product designs, and prototyping as well as technical documentation, proposals, and video promotion for a new marketing campaign.

By the end of the project, my team design proposal “Fragments” was chosen as the runner up for this project. The prototype was showcased and exhibited during the Huawei P10 Press Conference at the 2017 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

ST. PETER CHURCH

Graphic Designer (Volunteer) | Pekalongan, Indonesia.

December 2018 - January 2019

The role is a volunteer role within the local Church for their one week Christmas market and charity event. As the lead graphic designer, my main responsibility is to produce visual concepts, 2D graphic artwork, merchandise as well as the social media content for the event's held by the church. Items produced include poster, flyers, backdrop, Two contactless card design, money vouchers, and social media promotions.

The design has successfully enhanced the ambient of the event, creating a clear and concise visual language that corresponds to the Christmas garden and light tunnel installation that the church has prepared as part of the events, resulting in more engagement and visibility.

TOWNSKE

Townske is a social media publishing platform that lets people share and discover local cafes, restaurants, shops and places in almost any major city around the world through stunning photography and written article. As one of their contributor (Featured member), my primary responsibility is to write an appealing travel guide periodically. I write and photograph mostly about the cafe, hotel and restaurant in Indonesia, Singapore in early 2016 as I travel a lot to both countries and London in late 2016 onwards as I based in the UK at that time.

Over the one and a half year span, I have published 17 guides. 80% of the guides got featured in their featured article and gain roughly around 1200 view per guide.
